About Freightliner

Freightliner is a truck manufacturer that is based in the United States. Originally established in 1929 as a manufacturing division for Consolidated Freightways, it became incorporated as the Freightliner Corporation in 1942. By 1981 it became part of Daimler AG and is best known for its production of heavy and medium duty vehicles, as well as vans.

Freightliner also designs cutaway and bare chassis for numerous vehicles, and popularized the usage of COE (cabover) semitractors. Today the company headquarters can be found near Portland Oregon and its vehicles are assembled in Mount Holly and Cleveland, as well as Mexico and North Carolina.

About Freightliner Argosy

The Argosy is a brand of cabover style trucks which were manufactured by Freightliner between 1999 and 2020. It is considered the successor to the FLB based cabover, and is designated as a Class Eight truck which has been calibrated mainly for operation on highways. It is the last Class 8 vehicle to be marketed to North American consumers.

Beginning in 2006, mass production shifted to exports, especially to countries such as New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. For the North American market, the model continued to be sold mainly in the form of a glider style truck. Throughout its production life, the Freightliner was produced largely in the city of Cleveland in North Carolina. Its features include electronic brakes, daytime running illumination, traction control and telematics. The concept was powered by the Mercedes Benz OM457 I6 12 liter turbo diesel, and the body sat on 23 inch wheels.

Common Freightliner Argosy A/C Problems

The air conditioning system used by the Freightliner Argosy is much larger than standard automobiles. The most frequent issue encountered in this truck is compressor leakage. While owners can troubleshoot the issue, a repair must be performed by a mechanic that is specially trained in handling these trucks.

The engine should be activated so the truck is allowed to warm up normally. Pay attention to the gauge for the water temperature. Ideally it should remain in the center for the lower and upper gauge marks. Because most models utilize a pulley system for powering their A/C the vehicle must be at standard temperature in order for the A/C to work.
