The 2009 edition of the Nissan Murano is distinctive for its spherical nose, sharp windshield, small rear window and dual exhaust. The chrome grille is much wider and more aggressive than previous editions, with vertical slats that are well pronounced and headlights that resemble the FX45 more than the 350Z. The fenders in the front are elevated on top of the hood yet blend seamlessly inside its A-pillars, while the 19 or 20 inch wheels are encapsulated by fenders in back that provide the vehicle with greater strength.
The vertical tail lamps used in previous models were phased out in favor of horizontal models that better mimic its headlights. The materials within the cabin have also been upgraded, especially near the central console and instrument panel. Drivers have the option of adding stitched leather and the layout is much more ergonomic, with backseats that can be heated. It also has an LCD screen with a DVD player that can be controlled remotely and headphones which are wireless.

Some drivers have reported that the electrical system within their 2009 Murano failed. The ignition button produced a beeping noise whenever the engine was turned on, which coincided with a malfunctioning A/C unit that produced hot air. Mechanics who inspected the vehicle verified that there was a problem with its electrical system, but were unable to specify where or how the problem emerged. The failure usually occurs around 73,000 miles and requires the entire unit to be replaced.
