About Freightliner
During the early 2000s, Freightliner formed a partnership with DaimlerChrysler, which was the result of a merger which occurred in 1998. This culminated in a number of changes which included Freightliner being given a 3rd trucking brand, which included manufacturing plants in British Columbia and South Carolina.
Additionally, DaimlerChrysler would purchase Detroit Diesel and then integrate their operations with that of Freightliner. Because the economy was fragile at the time, Freightliner was in possession of a substantial number of trucks that it was unable to sell. In response, DaimlerChrysler brought in a new CFO who initiated a series of changes.
About Freightliner M2 112
The Freightliner M2 112 is a Class 7 to 8 semi-tractor that can generate between 260 and 505 horsepower. Its torque ranges from 720 to as much as 1850 lb-ft and it has both a cab and sleeper configuration. This truck is compatible with three different engines, which are the Cummins L9N, Detroit DD13 and Cummins L9.
Its standardized features include an end of frame style trailer connector and it uses a proprietary SmartPlex Electric mechanism which utilizes smart switches which don’t have to be reprogrammed after they’re installed, which eliminates the tedious process of manually having to extract the dashboard. SmartPlex also accounts for expansion capacity which means customized programming is allowed to meet each driver’s unique requirements. Like other Freightliner trucks, the M2 112 utilizes ServiceLink for diagnostic management which simplifies routine repairs and maintenance. This combined with its comfortable yet durable aluminum cabin makes it a serious truck for dedicated haulers.
Common Freightliner M2 112 A/C Problems
As the Freon temperatures inside the truck’s heat exchanger reach a certain threshold, its fan should activate automatically, as this will cool everything down. However, there are instances where this won’t happen, and if so the compressor won’t activate and as a consequence no Freon can move throughout the truck’s system, which means the A/C won’t cool down the cabin. When the truck is moving along the road, air will be forced into the system due to the air speed, but when slowing down this effect will be lost and if the fan doesn’t activate, no cooling will occur.
