Acura has become synonymous with luxury and opulence. Honda recognized the importance of having a luxury car division by the early 1980s, and with competitors such as Nissan and Toyota also developing their own luxury brands, it made sense for Honda to join. Despite being based in Japan and establishing Acura in 1986, Honda didn’t plan to introduce these cars to the domestic Japanese market until 2008. Hundreds of thousands of Acura vehicles have been sold around the world since the brand’s inception, and some of the most famous models include the Acura Legend, Integra and NSX.
About Acura NSX
The NSX is Acura’s premier performance car, and is Honda’s answer to Mercedes, BMW, Porsche and Ferrari. It is a true sports car outfitted with a mid-engine and two seats to maximize power, maneuverability and speed. It was first introduced in 1984 in the form of the HP-X concept, which was largely experimental at the time. The stated goal of Honda was to surpass the Ferrari’s famed V8 engine, which had long dominated the market. However, Honda intended for their sports car to have a more competitive price tag. The acronym “NSX” stands for New Sportscar Experimental.
Not only did the NSX match its European counterparts, in some cases it surpassed them, with Gordon Murray, the man who designed the McLaren F1, saying that the NSX was his inspiration and that it surpassed other performance cars due to its chassis. The NSX is powered by a V6, 3.5 liter dual turbocharged engine with three electric motors and an AWD drive train, which combined can generate up to 600 horsepower. The transmission comes in the form of a dual clutch nine speed automatic. The body incorporates space frame characteristics which include materials such as ultra-reinforced steel and aluminum.
Common Acura NSX A/C Problems
NSX models manufactured between 1991 and 1992 have a known evaporator issue. Should the evaporator become faulty, replacing it can be costly, which is why many customers choose to by remanufactured parts online. Replacing the evaporator will require the dashboard to be completely removed.
