The Evolution of Ford

  • In 1903: The staple of American automobile manufacturing was born in June, with its operations in Michigan. Henry Ford initially had ties with the Detroit automobile company, which was later restructured to form the Henry Ford Company. With a total of 12 investors equaling 1000 shares, the Ford Motor Company was formed in 1903.
  • In 1919: Henry Ford handed over his role to his son, who kept an eye on the production of Model T. Vehicle sales were still high, but competitors such as Chrysler and General Motors would be offering new design vehicles with special features that were hard to beat at the time.
  • In 1932: The company introduced the first ever V8 engine, which was used in Model Y. This was done in anticipation to boost up the sales, but a year later, it slipped down to the 3rd largest auto manufacturer just behind Chrysler.
  • In 1948: Ford introduced the first ever postwar vehicle with its production in Australian and American facilities. The sales took a big spike replacing Chrysler Group at the second position.
  • In 1973: With the production of 2.35 million vehicles, the company set a new record for cranking up the highest numbers throughout the history of the company.
  • In 2008: As a consequence of financial crisis, the company had to sell its Land Rover and Jaguar operations to Tata Motors. The deal was worth $2.3 billion.
  • In 2017: In an innovative move, the company took over a major stake in Argo AI, which is a promising startup based on Artificial intelligence.
